Meet Ruby – our May APE Achiever!

We are so happy to share an update on precious Ruby – an amazing orangutan YOU helped rescue and name in February 2024!

For six long years, Ruby was kept illegally as a pet. With a heavy chain around her neck, she was alone and utterly terrified. She was fed human food, and suffered deep physical and emotional trauma.

But everything changed – thanks to you.

Thanks to your kind support, our team rescued Ruby and brought her to safety at our BORA rescue centre in East Borneo. She was finally given the expert medical care, love and attention she needed to begin her journey of recovery.

Ruby’s rescue in February 2024

Today – Ruby is doing so well! With your help, Ruby has been attending Jungle School, where she’s learning how to live like a wild orangutan again. She’s learning to build nests, forage for food and climb with confidence.

She’s curious, playful and full of life. She has made wonderful friends with her fellow Jungle School buddies! One of her best friends is Ochre, another young orangutan rescued from the same village.

Check out this heartwarming video below of Ruby and Ochre playing together high up in the treetops!

Thank you so much for being a true champion for precious orangutans like Ruby. Your generosity has given her a second chance. The safety, love and skills she needs to one day return to the wild. Where she belongs.

From all of us – and Ruby – thank you! 🧡
