In exciting news, Rahayu has now moved to Setrum Island at the IAR Rescue Centre in West Kalimantan due to her excellent forest skills and independent nature.
Rahayu has continued to develop her foraging and nest-building skills. She seems to be able to find anything she needs by herself but will sometimes encourage another orangutan friend to follow her.
Her eyes have recently been checked by an expert and both have been given a clear bill of health which is wonderful news. Rahayu really has come such a long way from when she first arrived at the centre in a critically ill condition. Her fighting spirit helped to save her life and we are confident that this same spirit will see her on her way to forest freedom in the future.
