Arto

At just 2 years old, Arto is a social butterfly at Jungle School—playful, active and cheeky.

He weighs in at a healthy 9.1 kg. He’s growing more independent each week, feeding himself high in the trees and confidently exploring the forest on his own before coming down to the ground to play and wrestle with his friends.

Food is a big motivator for Arto—he happily eats just about everything. One of Arto’s distinctive characteristics is his preference for natural foods. In the forest he tucks into jengkol, young leaves, bark, coffee cherries and figs and will defend his haul from his orangutan friends. He also loves enrichment like coconut and sugar cane. Arto’s vigorous appetite is supporting his growth and development well.

Arto’s remains best friends with Harapi. They have long play sessions that show a strong bond, although Arto also mixes easily with Aman, Ochre, Mabel, Cinta, and Jainul. He often approaches other orangutans to play and is rarely alone. While Arto is generally easy going, he has a cheeky streak—occasional random rolling, brief flashes of attitude, and even trying to “go home” when Harapi heads back first (once deciding to walk himself!).

Overall, Arto is thriving—social, curious, and steadily building the skills he’ll need for the wild. Thank you for helping Arto on his journey toward freedom. Your support is powering his progress every day.
